Athletics fans in West Cork are certainly spoilt for choice on Sun 24th of August! Encouraging all athletes in West Cork to come out and support one or even both of these events!
In Skibbereen there is a 10km road race with a 1pm start on the Marsh Road. This is a fast course, so perfect for someone looking to record a new personal best! Also there is a 1mile juvenile race at 12noon. More info on CorkRunningBlog
Also on 24th Bandon AC are hosting an Open Sports in Bandon Town Park with a very full program of events. There will be a number of events for Juvenile athletes as well as Junior and Senior athletes. Bandon AC is celebrating 50th years since the founding of the club and as a tribute to sports in bygone years, there will also be 3 cycle races as part of the program which are sure to catch the imagination of the crowd as it will be the first time many will have seen cycle race on grass.
There will be cash prizes for all the Junior/ Senior events as well as the cycle races, medals/trophies for the juvenile events. There will also be a raffle on the day with all proceeds going to help defray travel and accommodation costs for Bandon AC member George Waugh, whose son Leon was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Events get going at 12noon with the Juvenile sprints, Junior/Senior events start at 2pm. Full timetable and program of events and also pre-entry for Junior/Senior events are available here
